This was composed in my freshman year at Juilliard for Peter Menin's composition class. I tried to demonstrate the piece at the piano and choked - my fingering was atrocious. The class had a good laugh at my expense. Mr. Menin told them, "Don't laugh! Don't look! Listen!" He was a wonderful man and teacher and was very supportive of us jazzer folks."
